East Beach is a dream location for Norfolk, VA family photography—brimming with charm, light, and the kind of relaxed, coastal beauty that invites families to simply be themselves. On this unseasonably warm spring day, that magic was alive and well!
We began the Evert Family’s session tucked inside one of East Beach’s beautiful marina-side homes—white walls, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a soft coastal aesthetic that could’ve been plucked straight from a Serena & Lily spread. As the light poured in, The Evert family sang songs, laughed and danced, and made memories they’ll never forget.
Kerry and Jason read books to the littles and we laughed as Pirate’s booty (the little cheesy puffs) were the obvious snack of choice. With grandparents in town and little ones leading the fun, this session was the kind that reminds you—home really is where the heart is!
One highlight of the day was an epic tickle fight! Wyatt and Billie even got to practice tickling mom and dad, and the grandparents were cheering everyone on and adding to the perfect chaos. It’s moments like these that make me absolutely love what I do!
Next, we wandered out into the coastal glow of East Beach. The marina shimmered nearby while we strolled the quiet alleys between homes. With tiny bare feet on the lush spring grass, Wyatt and Billie darted joyfully around their parents, with bright peals of laughter and joy.
East Beach: The Perfect Backdrop for Family Photography in Norfolk, VA
East Beach isn’t just a pretty place—it’s alive. It’s a neighborhood where kids still ride bikes to the beach, neighbors gather in courtyards with glasses of wine, and the sunset feels like a shared ritual. There’s a rhythm to life here that’s both elevated and effortlessly relaxed—exactly the kind of setting that brings out the most natural, joyful moments during a family session.
From a photography standpoint, East Beach offers a stunning variety of backdrops all within walking distance. The marina, with its sailboats bobbing gently and soft reflections on the water, gives a quiet, nautical elegance to any session. The side streets are lined with charming porches, flowering shrubs, and that dreamy light that filters in just right between the houses.
One of my favorite places to shoot is right where the homes meet the bay. There are grassy knolls where the wind dances through beach grass and little ones can kick off their shoes and run wild. The architecture throughout the neighborhood is classic coastal, like a stroll in Nantucket. It all makes for images that feel airy, timeless, and full of heart.
